This was my third attempt at writing a children’s song after preaching a sermon from Ephesians 6 about fathers and children using a traditional and familiar tune. The song originally only had the first two verses based on the passage from the beginning of Ephesians 6. Ephesians 6 is directed specifically at fathers, which is why the second verse is directed specifically at fathers, as the passage in Ephesians 6 is. After being questioned about why there was not a verse directed at mothers, I added a verse based on the ideas from Titus chapter 2 regarding mothers, making the song about all members of the family.
